Clinox 3A : at the heart of efficient organisation
The main difference between manual washing and a bedpan washer is this : when using a bedpan washer there is no longer a need to note room numbers on bedpans. When a bedpan has been used, it can be taken directly to the bedpan washer to be cleaned and disinfected. As soon as a cycle has been set, a new bedpan can be taken from a wall-mounted shelf, and taken to the bedroom of the patient. This rotation method minimises the time taken to replace a soiled bedpan with a clean and disinfected one. The storage area created by wall shelving.
To optimise the efficiency of the bedpan washer, the following points should be observed :
- Avoid emptying faeces and bodily fluids into patients’ toilets. The bedpan washer is designed to contain these, (like a conventional toilet), and disposes of these automatically.
- Use lids on the bedpans while they are being transported, this will prevent splashing and ensures the convenience of staff members.
- The use of a descaler or a detergent will optimise the effectiveness of the bedpan washer. A descaler will help to maintain the unit while a detergent will optimise the quality of cleaning.

1. Elimination of faeces and bodily fluids
After closing the lid, cold water is pumped into the chamber at a pressure of 4 bars through 12 jets to remove faeces. In the case of heavy soiling, increased washing power can be achieved by pressing the left pedal (intensive cycle).
2. Cleaning of equipment
After the cold water stage (prewash), hot water at a pressure of 4 bars is pumped into the chamber. Detergent and/or a descaler may be added at this stage, to ensure the effective removal of stains.
3. Thermal disinfection
After the pre-wash and hot wash, equipment is subjected to disinfection by steam which is maintained at a temperature of 85°C to 90°C, for 1 minute.This is followed by an automatic flush of cold water which reduces the steam inside the chamber. At the end of the cycle the lid will open automatically by 5cm. After 5 further minutes, the equipment will be dry due to the heat inside the unit. The lid opens automatically on applying the pedal.
